State of Minnesota dedicates $1M+ to address diaper need over the next two years
[Minneapolis, May 24, 2023] – The Diaper Bank of Minnesota is thrilled to announce that the State has allocated more than $1 million over the next two years to help families in need of diapers.
Currently, 1 in 3 Minnesota families – more than 90,000 children under the age of three – experience diaper need. And today, the State of Minnesota dedicated funding to address this problem and help these little ones.
Formed in 2010, the Diaper Bank of Minnesota started as a very small effort operating out of our founder’s basement. In the early years, we distributed approximately 100,000 diapers to community nonprofit organizations each year. Over the years, we have grown to increase our impact and serve more families. In 2022, we distributed more than 865,000 diapers through partnerships with forty Twin Cities’ nonprofit agencies.
With this new State funding, the Diaper Bank of Minnesota will dramatically increase diaper distribution through nonprofit partners across the state. We anticipate distributing more than 2 million diapers each year as a result of this grant.
This legislation serves as a testament to the power of collective action and community support. The Diaper Bank of Minnesota is so grateful for the leadership of Representative Kim Hicks and Senator Liz Boldon for authoring this legislation. We also want to thank the countless individuals, businesses, and organizations that have contributed to our mission and helped raise awareness about the diaper gap. A special thanks goes to our Advocacy Chair, Amy Smith, and Executive Director of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Jeff Bauer, who worked tirelessly to achieve this funding.
As the Diaper Bank of Minnesota looks toward the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to serving the community and ensuring that every child in the state has access to an adequate supply of diapers.
If you’d like to get involved to help address diaper need in Minnesota, we encourage you to host a diaper drive, sign up to volunteer or donate financially on our website.
